The Ram Sahai Story

Pandit Ram Sahai was born in 1780 as Ram Mishra. He was an extraordinarily gifted child and was taught to play the tabla by his father, Pt. Prakash Mishra. It is said that he would attend all the concerts with his father and always play a short solo.

At the age of nine, Ram captivated the Lucknow court and musician Modhu Khan took him under his wing. He went on to perform for a legendary consecutive seven nights and later developed his own unique style, The Benares Baaj, now the most popular tabla playing style around the world.
