The South Asian Arts Heritage Trail

he South Asian Arts Heritage Trail has been developed by the PRSSV, with valuable input from its students and family members, curators Nick Barnard (V&A) and Margaret Birley (Horniman Museum) and financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

We hope the trail enhances family and school visits to both museums, especially those interested in, or learning Indian music and dance. A selected number of objects that are on display in the Nehru Gallery (V&A) and the Music Gallery (Horniman) have been highlighted, with suggested questions and activities. These include musical instruments, paintings, textiles and sculptures. By viewing these collections with the aid of this booklet, visitors will be introduced to the role and importance of music and dance in Indian culture from ancient times to the present day.

Special thanks to, The V&A, Horniman Museum, SOAS, Laurent Delaye Gallery and Harrow Music Service.
